One of the best ways to improve your car or truck is to install aftermarket performance parts. This is a great way to customize it to your liking or push the horsepower as high as possible. You may have heard that the exhaust system has some of the most potential for improvement. Learn more about the best exhaust systems.
What Is Axle Back?
The term “axle back” is easy to understand. It refers to the exhaust system from the axle to the back end of the vehicle. This includes the muffler and a short section of exhaust piping. Axle back exhaust replacements are distinct from catback exhaust, which is from the catalytic converter back and includes many more parts than axle back. The advantages of axle back replacements are a simple and inexpensive process. The disadvantage, of course, is that fewer parts are replaced so there are fewer ways to customize your vehicle.
The Replacement Process
Some vehicles are designed with an axle back replacement in mind. If this is the case, you can simply pop off everything behind the axle and screw on the replacement parts. It really is as easy as it sounds. Unfortunately, not all vehicles have this feature. If your vehicle was not designed for an axle back replacement, you will have to cut the pipes to get them off, and more securely attach the new parts.
There are two main reasons to replace your exhaust parts:
- Change the sound of your engine
- Improve the horsepower of your vehicle
With an axle back replacement, you can easily and extensively change how your exhaust sounds by customizing your muffler. Your options for improving horsepower are limited, however. Installing a performance muffler will punch up your vehicle’s power, but that is all you can do. If you really want to get the most out of your engine, you will have to do a more extensive exhaust replacement. The first step is always to find the parts you want.
