Advice for renting a car

Now that the summer has arrived, some of you might be tempted to leave Finland. Some of you will even book a holiday with Momondo or another holiday booking website that you find on Suomiarvostelut.

When you go on holiday, you’ll likely come across a few countries where instead of using public transport systems, you’ll be more likely to hire a car.

Hiring a car can give you so much free as you’ll be able to drive wherever you want. But it should also be said that using a hire car does come with its challenges. Today, we’ll be looking at the best advice for using a hired car.

Keep it clean

Let’s kick off the list with the most obvious one. Keep it clean.

Any stains that your car will have an impact on the deposit you’ve put on it, the amount they’ll have to pay for cleaning will be taken out of your bank account.

The best way to keep it clean is to make sure you never eat or drink when you’re driving, and never put anything muddy in there.

Drive safely

Driving safely is good advice, regardless as to whether you’re driving your own car or a hire car. Getting in a car accident can do you some severe physical and mental damage.

But when you’re driving a hire car, you’ll need to be extra safe.

Getting a dent in your own car is bad, but it won’t be the end of the world. However, getting a dent in a hire car is a different matter. You’re going to have to pay to get it repaired, and I very much doubt it’s going to be cheap.

But, so long as you keep to the speed limits, and watching out when driving around corners, you won’t need to worry.

Know where to park

The last thing you want is to have a car that isn’t even your towed away. Make sure that when you park, you’re parking in a place you’re allowed to park.

Before setting off, look into the laws about where you’re not allowed to park. In America, for example, you’re not allowed to park in front of fire hydrants.

In the worst-case scenario, parking where you’re not supposed to could lead to the car being crushed, and that won’t be cheap at all.

Only drive if you need to

Hiring a car can be great if you’re going to somewhere rural where there isn’t really an excellent public transport system. However, you go to a big city like New York, Berlin, London, etc., the amount of time you’ll be spending in traffic will defeat the whole purpose.

Should you ever go and visit such places, you’ll be much better off just using the public transport system. In cities like these, their public transport is going to be efficient and affordable.

Conclusion

And there we have it, my four pieces of advice for when you need to hire a car. The pandemic is coming to an end, we’re finally allowed to leave our homes, and even Finland. But that doesn’t mean we should be reckless.

Because more people are going away, the car hire companies will be putting more devils into the details.
